In the post-lunch session on day 2 of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023, Alex Carey, the wicket-keeper batter for Australia, was dismissed leg before wicket on 48 by Ravindra Jadeja, thanks to a brilliant DRS call by the Indian captain Rohit Sharma. With that, the 34-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner picked up his first scalp of the WTC final.

It was the fourth ball of the 114th over in the Australian innings when Ravindra Jadeja bowled a fuller-length ball from around the stumps. Alex Carey brought out his trademark reverse-sweep stroke, but he missed the ball entirely. The Indians appealed for lbw but Chris Gaffaney didn’t give the batter out, to which the Indian captain Rohit Sharma went upstairs.

The technology showed that the 31-year-old left-handed batter was in front of the stumps as the ball thudded into his pads. Therefore, the umpire had to change his decision to send Carey packing to the pavilion. Jadeja and the rest of the players of Team India celebrated the fall of the eighth wicket of Australia.

Moments later, the entire Twitter started reacting to the dismissal of Alex Carey. Some praised the captain Rohit Sharma for his correct DRS call, while others were happy about Ravindra Jadeja picking up his first wicket in the WTC final.

For Australia, Travis Head was the top scorer with 163 runs off just 174 deliveries with 25 fours and one maximum, while Steve Smith compiled 121 runs in 268 deliveries with 19 fours of his own.
