A few pictures of Delhi Capitals’ pacer Chetan Sakariya are going viral on the internet as the cricketer was spotted in RR jersey during the IPL 2022 Final between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT). Sakariya was seen in the stands with the pink jersey on and cheering for the Sanju Samson-led team on Sunday evening.
This also left many people wondering why was Sakariya wearing the RR jersey if he plays for Delhi Capitals now? Notably, the Saurashtra cricketer made his IPL debut with Rajasthan Royals in 2021. He featured in 14 games for RR in 2021 where the left-arm quick picked 14 wickets.
Sakariya’s career took new heights after his stint with RR. He got a national call-up pretty soon and also made his debut for the Indian team. Sakariya has played 1 ODI and 2 T20Is so far. As the cricketer’s life changed after his stint with RR, he displayed his loyalty by cheering for the 2008 champions in the IPL 2022 final.
Heartbreak for Sakariya and RR fans
Although Sakariya cheered for RR with his heart out, his team could not cross the line against GT in the big final. This was RR’s third consecutive defeat against GT in IPL 2022. While the Sanju Samson-led team lost one game during league stage, they lost two games in the knockouts stage to Gujarat.
In the big game, RR failed to put GT under pressure as they posted only 130/9 in their 20 overs. Then they failed to defend the paltry total and eventually lost by seven wickets. Had RR won, it would have been their second IPL title in the second attempt. As the Rajasthan-based team had won the trophy in 2008 after making it to the final under Shane Warne.
