India’s opening batter Shubman Gill is in some serious form, especially in ODI cricket. Gill has already amassed over 1000 runs in only 19 ODI innings. The batter has five half-centuries and three centuries as well. The latest of which came against New Zealand in the first ODI which was played on Wednesday (18 Jan). Gill scored his third ODI century off 87 balls to continue his purple patch in the format.
The 23-year-old topped it off with his maiden double-century in international cricket. Gill scored 208 runs off 149 balls before perishing to a superb catch from Glenn Phillips. The young batter hit nineteen boundaries and nine sixes in his inning in the first ODI. Gill created and broke many records. While he became the fastest Indian to reach 1000 runs in ODI cricket, Gill became the youngest to score a double ton in ODIs.
The batter earned loads of praise for his valiant knock. From former cricketers to fans, everyone doffed their hats to Gill. While some called him a future superstar, some were in awe of the shots gill played during his inning.
