Fans on social media had a field day when Sri Lanka took on South Africa in their T20 World Cup 2024 opener at the new Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. After winning the toss, the Lankans elected to bat but soon regretted their decision as the pitch was a tricky one and allowed the South African pacers to dominate.
Sri Lanka went from 13-1 to 32-4 and then were bundled out for 77 in the 20th over. The Proteas saw Anrich Nortje tear through the Lankan batting as picked four wickets while giving away only seven runs while Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj picked up two wickets each. Reacting to this performances, fan heavily cricitised Sri Lanka for their poor batting performance and also deemed the pitch to be unfit for T20 cricket.
