Brighton and Hove Albion’s official social media handle took a massive dig at Real Madrid’s new star midfielder, Jude Bellingham, on Wednesday. Bellingham conjured an amazing performance at Hampden Park on Wednesday. Representing the ‘Three Lions’, Bellingham was a part of England’s lineup for their friendly match against neighbours Scotland.
The 20-year-old doubled the lead for England as he found the net in the 35th minute of the game. He was rapid in midfield throughout the game and helped England maintain a possession rate of 61%. In the 81st minute, he showed his class once again and assisted on the third goal for the team, which was scored by skipper Harry Kane. He ended the game with an assist and a goal as England sealed a 3-1 victory over Scotland.
Brighton and Hove Albion’s official social media account posted a picture during the game that had Bellingham, Lewis Dunk, and Kalvin Phillips celebrating on the field. But the image had a controversial caption. The account tweeted, “One is an absolute certainty to win the Ballon d'Or one day. The other is Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham. 🤷♂️”.
It was obvious that the club was referring to Lewis Dunk as an absolute certainty to win the Ballon d’Or as Dunk has been a part of the Brighton side as a defender for more than a decade. However, fans were quick to link the Ballon d’Or to Kalvin Phillips sarcastically, as he was present in the image too.
Let’s take a look at some of the reactions below:
