On Sunday, December 8, India was handed a crushing 10-wicket defeat against Australia in the second Test of the highly-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series. With this win, Australia came back into the series, levelling it 1-1 as the action will now move to the third Test, set to be played from December 14 onwards at The Gabba in Brisbane.
While the pink-ball Test had its moments to cherish, Travis Head was the starboy as he scored a crucial Test hundred. However, another moment which hogged the limelight in the day-night Test was the controversial verbal spat, involving Travis Head and Mohammed Siraj. However, both have been levelled with charges for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct, former India cricketer, Kris Srikkanth lashed out at the Indian pacer for his on-field conduct.
Kris Srikkanth lashes out at Mohammed Siraj for verbal altercation with Head
Speaking on his YouTube channel, former India player Kris Srikkanth lashed out at Siraj for his celebration and called it “madness”. “He has smashed the bowling mercilessly. Hey Siraj, don't you have brains? What are you doing? Have you gone mad? He smashed you left, right and centre. He hit boundaries and sixes effortlessly in his knock of 140. You're giving him a send-off after that. Is this called Sledging? What rubbish is this? It's just madness,” Srikkanth said.
“One batter has scored 140. Give him credit, and applaud his knock. Instead of saying 'brilliant knock', you're giving him a send-off? As if, you got him out on 10 or 0, as if you planned it and got his wicket! He smashed you all over. The Indian bowlers had no answers to Head's onslaught. 140 off 141 balls. Look at that. He hit sixes at will. He didn't treat Ashwin as a spinner, he is dancing down the track and smashing him,” he added.
However, the controversy was put to rest the very next day with both players getting into a brief on-field chat followed by sharing a hug in the post-match greeting, Head, who won the Player of the Match award further clarified stating, “He’s come out then and said it was little bit of a misunderstanding…. I think we’ll move on, we’ve had a great week, so let’s not ruin it. … I’m sweet, and I think he’s the same, and we move on.”
