The Premier League season has kicked off with a bang in the United Kingdom, pleasing the football fans. In one of the blockbuster fixtures lined up for Saturday, Newcastle United took on the challenge of Aston Villa at Villa Park. Both the teams were looking to start with a win. However, the match ended in a goalless draw even though Aston Villa player received a red card at the start of the second half.
Ezri Konsa was the player who was sent back to the dugout after being shown a red card in the 66th minute of the match. Newcastle United were far better throughout the entire game but lacked the final touch inside the box. Following the match, the Magpies manager Eddie Howe addressed the transfer saga invovling Alexander Isak and said, “From my perspective, you want a resolution quickly. It’s taking away the focus of the players, of the supporters. We want to be united together. We’d like a resolution, but we’re not in control of that.”
A goalless draw at Villa Park despite dominant performance from Newcastle United
In total, Newcastle United had 16 shots while Aston Villa had only taken three shots inside the box throughout the match at Villa Park. However, despite their best efforts the visitors could not manage to put the ball across the line. Antony Gordon made his start as a striker which was the position of Alexander Isak as the latter is determined on joining Liverpool, and due to which, he stayed out of the Newcastle United matchday squad.
Speaking about Antony Gordon’s performance as a striker, Eddie Howe stated that he was very good in the position allotted for him today. The manager could not find any fault in his performance apart from stating that he would rather focus on the team performance rather than pinpointing any individual. Newcastle are really hoping to resolve the Isak situation quickly, looking forward to a progressive bid from Liverpool so that they can sell the striker and find a good replacement for him in the transfer window before it comes to an end.
