English footballer Jacob Ramsey is reportedly set to be landing at St. James' Park this summer as Newcastle United inch closer to signing him as part of a long-term deal for £38 million. With this, the Aston Villa midfielder will be the fourth player signed by the club in the ongoing summer transfer window. With negotiations between the clubs at an advanced stage, personal terms are not expected to pose an issue. If the deal goes through as anticipated, Ramsey could feature in Newcastle United’s squad for Saturday’s Premier League opener - fittingly, against Aston Villa at Villa Park.
Ramsey’s solid energy and knack for driving forward from midfield have established him as one of the Premier League’s favourites, with the Magpies seeing him as an immediate boost to Eddie Howe’s starting lineup. The final details will be out by the weekend, with personal terms reportedly already agreed. Ramsey is set to head to Tyneside for a medical on Wednesday before signing a long-term deal, as per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Newcastle United looking forward to filling the gap with Sean Longstaff's exit to Leeds United
Although Newcastle is on a signing spree, they are still looking forward to filling the gap created by Sean Longstaff’s £15 million departure to Leeds United last month. Initially, Ramsey was regularly benched by Villa, but later he managed 17 goals in 167 appearances and started roughly half of last season’s fixtures. Since making his debut in 2019, he has been on Howe’s radar for some time. Ramsey has also drawn strong interest from Tottenham Hotspur and, more recently this summer, West Ham United. While Villa were not actively looking to sell him, his departure would count as pure profit from a financial standpoint.
Aston Villa received a deal approach for Ramsey from West Ham United, but it didn't quite work out. Newcastle United have finalized the £35 million acquisition of German centre-back Malick Thiaw from Milan and are looking forward to making a deal for strikers. Once they secure at least one new forward, Liverpool is expected to return with an improved bid for Isak, having already seen a £110 million offer turned down.
