While the 2024 edition of the Summer Games must have concluded, the talks around the next few editions have already begun. The 2028 Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles, the hosts for the 2036 edition is yet to be decided. Although India has bid for the 2036 edition, Egypt is the latest nation to join the bandwagon to host the Summer Olympics, eyeing a bid for 2036 and 2040.

With an to improve country’s infrastructure, Egypt has bid to host the next few editions. Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024 closing ceremony, the head of the African National Olympic Committees Association (ANOCA) on Sunday said, “Egypt will bid for 2036 and 2040.”

“Africa has the chance of organising the Games. It will most likely organise the Games in 2040,”Mustapha Berraf, Head of ANOCA said. “There is a need to look at infrastructure issues such as roads, airports. Egypt has important infrastructure potential,” Berraf further added.

It is to be noted that the continent has never hosted an Olympic Games, However, Cairo made an unsuccessful bid for the 2008 Olympics. Apart from this, the Algerian sports administrator said that another African bid could potentially materialise with South Africa’s Cape Town considering the Olympics candidacy. 

Egypt has now joined the likes of Indonesia, India, Turkey as well as Qatar and Saudi Arabia to host the 2036 Summer Olympics.
