The Badminton Association of India (BAI) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a smooth execution of the BWF World Championships 2026. The marquee event is returning to India after 17 years, and the Indian association is going hard miles to make sure the tournament is held in a flawless manner. While both the bodies came together to give the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium a revamp, another unique strategy has been implied.

The organisers have hired three monkey whisperers to imitate Langur sounds, which will scare away rhesus macaques, commonly found in central Delhi, including the area of the stadium. "Monkeys are absolutely terrified of langurs, which is why mimicking is so effective. I have served in several government offices, and the idea is not to harm the monkeys, but just to ‌make ⁠sure they won't come," Zafar, who is a third-gen monkey whisperer, told media on Monday.

Notably, earlier this year, the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, the same venue that hosted the India Open, drew international criticism during the India Open this year. Now that the organizers have come up with such a unique strategy, people all across the social media reacted and labelled it a ‘Jugaad’. Not only this, but PV Sindhu reacted to it and claimed that while people can laugh at it, they should appreciate the effort that the country is making in hosting the finest badminton talent from across the globe.

The tournament is set to run from August 17, 2026 to August 23, 2026, in the national capital city, New Delhi.
