With only
75 on the board, Team India needed more than their bowlers to defend such a low
score in front of a quality Australian batting line-up. While R Ashwin bowled
as per his reputation as he dismissed Usman Khawaja on the very second delivery
of Australia’s 2nd innings, Shreyas Iyer too stepped up with his spot-on mind
game.
As per a
video going viral on the internet, Iyer was seen poking Travis Head by stating
that his one leg is in Chandigarh while the other is in Haryana. “Ek pair Delhi
me hain aur ek pair Haryana me,” Iyer said to Head in the 5th over of the
match. Australian batter looked amused with that comment as Iyer made that
comment in Hindi.
While
Shreyas Iyer thought his act would distract the Aussie batter and he might give
away his wicket, the reality left Iyer clueless. Travis Head reverted with a
match-winning knock as the left-handed batter batted brilliantly along with
Marnus Labuschagne (28 off 58), to guide Australia home.
With one maximum and six boundaries, Travis Head (49 off 53) played a blistering knock as he looked in rush to finish the game off. With that win, Australia became the first team to qualify for the World Test Championship final. While India has been pushed back in a tight situation as the host cannot afford a defeat in the last Test match of the series, and will be up in a must-win game.
