The BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, also known as the Indian Wells Open, is an annual tennis tournament held in California, the USA. After the qualifier rounds got over, the main tournament began on March 5. Former US Open Champion Emma Raducanu was knocked out in the first round itself after losing 3-6, 2-6 to Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima. The British tennis player was playing her first WTA match after her last tournament, which was the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, where she crashed out of the Round of 32 of that tournament after losing to Karolina Muchova.
A lot of news around the tennis player had been doing the rounds after she lost in the Dubai tournament. The news was not particularly about just her performance in the event, but also regarding an incident that took place that time. During the course of the event, Emma had encountered a stalker incident with some man in the audience giving her "fixated attention". Emma openly admitted that she wasn’t sure whether she will compete so soon again after the incident in Dubai.
I literally couldn’t see the ball through tears: Emma opened up about her stalking incident
Emma Raducanu opened up to the reporters at the Indian Wells event and went on to talk about the stalking incident that took place in Dubai. She said, “I literally couldn’t see the ball through tears. I could barely breathe.” The Briton further remarked, “It could have been dealt with better, but now it is being dealt with better so for me that’s important.” Raducanu also said that she was glad to be at the indian Wells, which is one of her favourite events apart from the Grand Slams.
The British tennis player has been recently going through a phase of change after she parted ways with her coach Nick Cavaday in January 2025. She is currently training with a trial coach in the likes of Vladimir Platinek and new fitness coach Yutaka Nakamura.
