The opening Test of the five-match series of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy has come to the final day, where England will be hoping to get 350 runs on the board in order to take a 1-0 lead, whereas the visitors will be hoping get all ten wickets at the earliest to decimate the home side. With Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett in the middle, England will be eyeing a win on a cloudy day at Headingley, a lot will be on Indian bowlers, especially Jasprit Bumrah.

But just ahead of day five’s play in Leeds, both teams were seen walking out with black armbands. Notably, the two teams wore black armbands to mark respect to Ahmedabad Air India plane crash and then wore it on day three on the passing away of David Lawrence, former England pacer.

England and India players wear black armbands in memory of late Dilip Doshi

Prior to the start of play on day 5, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to X and wrote, “Both teams are wearing black armbands today in memory of former Indian cricketer Dilip Doshi, who passed away on Monday.” The players also observed a minute’s silence as a mark of respect.

It is to be noted that Doshi, a former left-arm spinner, breathed last on Monday, June 23 in London. He passed away aged 77 due to heart issues. He is survived by a daughter and a son. During his playing days, which spanned from 1979 and 1983, he represented India in 33 Tests and 15 ODIs. Doshi took 114 Test wickets in 33 appearances, including six five-wicket hauls. In the 50-over format, he finished with 22 wickets to his name at an economy of 3.96.
