Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t board the flight to the United Kingdom after testing positive for COVID-19, a BCCI source confirmed. Ashwin was scheduled to travel to the United Kingdom along with his teammates for the one-off Test but couldn’t after testing positive for COVID-19.

Ashwin is currently in quarantine and will only join the squad after returning negative for the virus. Notably, the Indian team had left for UK on June 16, while Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and Rahul Dravid boarded the flight on Monday after the conclusion of the SA series.

"Ashwin hasn't travelled with the squad to UK as he has tested positive for Covid 19 before departure. But we are hopeful that he will recover well in time before the Test match starts on July 1," a BCCI source told a news agency.

The veteran spinner is likely to miss the practice match against Leicestershire.

Meanwhile, the squad for the Ireland series will leave for Dublin on either June 23 or 24 as the team members have been given a three-day rest. VVS Laxman will serve as head coach for the tour, while Hardik Pandya will lead the side for the T20I series.
