England Cricket Board has announced the squad for the much-awaited five-match Test series against India. The series will be played from June 20 to August 4 with the five Test matches scheduled to be played in cities like Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester and London. Talking about the squad, Ben Stokes will continue to lead England in Test matches against India.
One of the main highlights from England’s squad is the return of Jamie Overton in the red-ball setup. Notably, Overton broke his finger during the ODI series against West Indies and was doubtful for India Tests. However, the fast bowler made into the Test squad replacing Gus Atkinson who has been ruled out due to a hamstring injury. Apart from that, Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse are also back in the squad after missing the one-off Test against Zimbabwe.
Mark Wood and Jofra Archer miss out from England squad for India Tests
Fast bowling duo of Mark Wood and Jofra Archer also didn’t make into the England's squad for the Test series against India. Wood and Olly Stone are out due to knee injuries while Archer is also dealing with thumb injury and will not be match-fit until the second Test.
The first Test match of the series will be played at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds from June 20 to 24. India have also announced a new-look squad for the upcoming Test series with Shubman Gill taking charge as new Test captain ans Rishabh Pant getting appointed as his deputy.
