
Chelsea right-back Reece James suffered a gruesome knee injury in The Blues' 2-0 victory over AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League 2022-23, Group E clash on Tuesday night at San Siro. Reportedly, James ruptured his knee ligament and faces a challenge to be fit for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
With Kyle Walker's inclusion in the England squad to face Iran in their opening world cup fixture on November 21 is still in doubts, the Three Lions will face another set-back if the 22-year-old full back failed to recover in time.
According to Sportsmail, Reece James underwent a scan on Thursday, which showed he sustained ligament damage and is likely to stay out of the action for six to eight weeks, adding to the misery of Gareth Southgate's England.
During Chelsea victory over AC Milan, Reece James sustained the injury in the second half and was replaced by Cesar Azpilicueta in the 62nd minute. James has started six of Chelsea's eight Premier League games while he started in England's last two games.
After the victory at San Siro, Chelsea head coach Graham Potter said, " We're hoping he'll be okay, it'll be 24, 48 hours to find out, so it's too early to give you anything more than that. "
Meanwhile, Chelsea will travel to Aston Villa on Sunday and Brentford on October 20 before hosting Manchester United on October 22 at the Stamford Bridge in the Premier League followed by their UCL clash against RB Salzburg at the Red Bull Arena on October 25.
