On Monday, July 28, hours after the conclusion of the fourth Test in Manchester, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the squad for the upcoming fifth and final Test, set to be played from Thursday, July 31 to August 4 at the Kennington Oval in London. It is to be noted that the announcement comes after the Manchester Test ended in a draw after the Indian batters fought hard to put a 114-run lead.
While the England side lead the series by 2-1 margin, after get they clinched the first and third Test match at Headingley, Leeds and Lord’s, London respectively, India are trailing after their solitary win came in the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. But as they set their eyes on a win in the fifth Test, on Monday, Ben Stokes-led England confirmed their 15 men squad.
Jamie Overton added in England squad ahead of fifth Test
Ahead of the fifth Test, the England Cricket have made a change into their side, which has seen the addition of Surrey all-rounder Jamie Overton. However, not much is known behind this move, but it comes after Liam Dawson’s addition, which came ahead of the fourth Test after Shoaib Bashir was ruled out of the remainder of the series.
Moreover, Josh Tongue, who was released from the squad during the Manchester Test, has been retained in the lineup. Speaking of Overton, the 31-year-old returns into the squad after three years. In his last appearance, which has been his only so far in Test, came against New Zealand in Leeds on June 23, 2022.
