Ben Stokes-led England took a massive lead in the ongoing second Test against New Zealand on Day 2, Saturday, December 7 in Wellington. After winning the toss, New Zealand invited England to put the score on the board. The visitors were bundled out for the score of 280 in 54.4 overs. Afterwards, the hosts were reduced to 125 all out in 34.5 overs with England putting 155-run lead.

Coming out to bat again, England added 533 runs on the board at Stumps on Day 2 of the second Test with four of their batters registering 50-plus scores on the board and England’s Test mainstay Joe Root still on the crease, batting at 73 runs off 106. With the match in full control of England at Day 2’s play end, England also became the first side in 147-year history of Test to score 500000 runs.

England become first team to cross 500000-run mark in Test cricket

With The Three Lions featuring in their 1082th Test in 147-year-old history, England became the first team to cross 500,000 Test runs on Saturday. Batting in the 51 st  over at the Basin Reserve, England achieved their half-a-millionth (500000 th ) run with Harry Brook lofting New Zealand seamer William O’Rourke over mid-off to fetch two runs.

To reach this landmark feat, England took 18,900 individual innings , with their aggregate standing at 500126 runs at the end of day two’s play. England’s Ashes rival, Australia stand second on Test aggregates with over 428,000 runs since 1877. India is ranked third with 278751 runs in 586 Test matches.

Speaking of the ongoing second Test match against New Zealand, England added 378 runs at the loss of five wickets at Stumps on Day 2 with Joe Root (73 off 106) and skipper Ben Stokes (35 off 26) in the middle.
