As per the latest development in women’s football, England have joined hands with police to find perpetrators of racial abuse experienced by defender Jess Carter during the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025. In their official statement, the England women’s football team, who are called the Lionesses, stated that they are not going to make an anti-racism gesture of taking a knee before their matches in the ongoing European tournament.

Their decision to stop taking the knee as part of the anti-racism campaign got finalised after it was “clear we and football need to find another way to tackle racism”. The Football Association (FA) made a statement on the matter wherein they talked about “working with police to ensure those responsible for this hate crime are brought to justice”.

Jess Carter decides against using social media for the time being

As far as Jess Carter is concerned, she has decided to not use social media for the time being, which is a prudent call on her part due to experiencing “a lot of racial abuse” during the Euros this summer. She was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “From the start of the tournament I have experienced a lot of racial abuse. While I feel every fan is entitled to their opinion on performance and result, I don't agree, or think, it's OK to target someone's appearance or race.

“As a result of this I will be taking a step back from social media and leaving it to a team to deal with,” Jess Carter added, who has already won the Euros with England in 2022, and she could play a major role in defending the title this month. UEFA also weighed in on the matter, and remarked, “We stand with Jess. Abuse and discrimination should never be tolerated, whether in football or society, in person or online."

The England women’s football team are set to play against Italy in the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 on Tuesday, July 22.
