The England women’s football team showed immense grit and determination to win the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 against Spain in the final in the penalty shootout. Chloe Kelly rocketed the final penalty into the back of the net to seal the victory for the Lionesses. The true match-winner of the game was Hannah Hampton as she saved two crucial penalties in the shootout, which gave the numerical advantage to England. It led to the English players converting their chances to win the tournament, becoming one of the teams to clinch the European Championship trophy more than one time.
However, there was another wounded Lioness who gave it her all throughout the tournament which was Lucy Bronze. The English right-back fought like a true lioness throughout the whole tournament. In an interview with BBC Sport, the 33-year-old revealed, "I actually played the whole tournament with a fractured tibia, but no-one knew." She was the player with the most minutes played for the England team throughout the tournament after Keira Walsh, Alex Greenwood, and Hannah Hampton.
We inspire each other by playing through things like that and it got us to the end, in the end: Lucy Bronze
After winning the tournament, in the post-match interview Lucy Bronze revealed that she had hurt her other knee during the match and was playing in pain. This is why she was getting a lot of praise from her team for stepping up when needed and playing through the pain till the end. She added, "If that's what it takes to play for England, that's what I'll do - they know that. We inspire each other by playing through things like that and it got us to the end, in the end."
The Chelsea full back was delighted after the team won the match in the penalty shootout as she was seen hopping and jumping around the bench on one leg celebrating the victory. Her whole leg was bandaged, however her grit to continue throughout the match was truly inspiring and will be remembered by the Lionesses for a long time.
