With this result, ten Hag became the first Man United manager to lose a Champions League fixture after being 2-0 up. Yes, this nightmarish loss saw the Red Devils get the perfect start with forward Rasmus Hojlund scoring a first-half brace with two clinical finishes. But things went downhill from here as winger Marcus Rashford was sent off after a controversial red card which was followed by a quick goal and a debatable penalty for FC Copenhagen at half-time.
The second half saw Bruno Fernandes’ penalty give some hope to Ten Hag’s side with a score of 3-2 only for two late Copenhagen goals to add insult to injury on Manchester United’s poor 2023-24 season.
