Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, highly regarded as one of the best players of his generation, has signed a new long-term contract of nine-and-a-half-years with Manchester City, to stay at the reigning English champions until 2034. After his exemplary performances in Manchester City colours since 2022, it was expected that the 24-year-old would commit to a long-term future at the club, and the formal announcement was made on Friday, January 17.

Notably, the previous contract between Manchester City and Erling Haaland, signed in the summer of 2022 upon his arrival from Borussia Dortmund, had a release clause, while it was set to expire in 2027. During his time at Manchester City over the past two-and-half-years, he has scored 111 goals in 126 matches, winning the Premier League twice along with UEFA Champions League and FA Cup title victories.

Erling Haaland has scored 21 goals in 28 matches in all competitions this season

If Erling Haaland manages to fulfill his end of the deal with the reigning English champions Manchester City, he will remain with them until his 34th birthday. After signing on the dotted line, the Norwegian was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club. Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters and it's the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.”

Erling Haaland also thanked everyone involved at Manchester City, including the manager Pep Guardiola for his time over the last two-and-half-years, which has propelled his career to super stardom at such a young age. He said, “I also want to thank [manager] Pep [Guardiola], his coaching staff, my team-mates and everyone at the club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years.”

In the ongoing 2024-25 season, Erling Haaland has scored 21 goals in 28 matches for Manchester City despite the recent struggles of the club in all competitions.
