Former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez, popularly known as Chicharito, has been fined for making controversial remarks about women on social media. In a series of recent TikTok videos, Chicharito spoke about male-female relationships, drawing criticism for reinforcing gender stereotypes and promoting content seen as encouraging violence. The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) stated that the 37-year-old, who is now associated with Liga MX club Chivas, made comments that are against the sporting spirit.

The former Mexico captain on his official social media said, "Don't be afraid to be a woman, to allow yourself to be led by a man." This didn't go well with a certain section of the people. The incident led the Gender and Diversity Commission to launch an investigation, as the remarks were viewed as a breach of equality standards in both sports and society. In response, the Mexican Football Federation issued an official warning and levied a financial fine against Chicharito. Further, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, the country's first female president, said, "Chicharito is a very good footballer, but when it comes to his opinion on women. He still has a lot to learn."

He is currently Mexico’s all-time leading goal scorer, who began his European career in 2010 when he moved from Chivas to Manchester United. During his four-year stint at Old Trafford, he won the Premier League title twice. The 37-year-old striker 2023 made his way back to Chivas, signing a two-year deal.
