Steve Smith has announced retirement from ODI cricket on March 5 after Australia lost the semi-final to India under his captaincy and was eliminated from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Smith, who is regarded as one of the best batters of this generation in the 50-over format, have played a total of 170 matches and scoring 5800 runs. 

The 35-year-old has played many outstanding innings under pressure throughout his ODI career from 2010 to 2025. The right-handed batter has smashed a total of 12 centuries and 35 half-centuries in ODIs.

105 vs India in CWC 2015 Semi-final 

Steve Smith played one of his best innings in ODI cricket on a big stage in the semi-final of Cricket World Cup 2015, scoring 105 runs against India. He faced 93 balls in this inning, where he smashed 11 fours, and two sixes. Thanks to his century, Australia put a target of 329 runs and eventually won the match by 95 runs. Smith was named Player of the Match for his inning. 

85 vs England in CWC 2019 Semi-final 

Smith likes to perform in pressure situation; one of the prime examples of this is his 85 runs against England in the second semi-final of the Cricket World Cup 2019. When Australia lost early wickets in the big game while batting first, Steve Smith held one end and scored 85 runs off 119 balls, including six fours. Thanks to his innings, Australia managed to put up a total of 223 runs. However, England chased it down quite comfortably. 

164 vs New Zealand 

The right-handed batter smashed 164 runs off 157 balls against New Zealand in the first ODI of the New Zealand tour of Australia in Sydney. While batting first, Smith came out to bat after losing Aaron Finch on a duck and then played an amazing inning of 164 runs, including 14 fours and four sixes in it. Thanks to his innings, Australia set the target of 325 runs for the Kiwis to chase and won the match by 68 runs.

149 vs India 

In the first ODI of the India tour of Australia, Steve Smith scored a brilliant century against India in Perth to take 1-0 lead in the series. While chasing the target of 310, Australia lost both of their openers on single digits, but Steve Smith put up an amazing partnership with George Bailey to win the match for Australia by five wickets. Smith smashed a total of 149 runs off 135 balls, including 11 fours and two sixes. He was also named Player of the Match for his match-winning inning.

Steve Smith showcased his batting masterclass in Bengaluru in the third ODI of the Australia tour of India in 2020, where he scored 131 runs off 132 balls while batting first. The batter did not get the huge support from the other end. Thanks to his innings, which included 14 fours and one six, Australia put up a total of 286 runs. However, Australia lost that match by seven wickets as Rohit Sharma scored a century in the chase.
