1. 438/9 by South Africa against Australia in 2006
Herschelle Gibbs turned out to be a hero when South Africa achieved the highest successful chase in the ODIs, just a few hours after Australia posted their highest total in the format at Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg on 12th March, 2006. The Aussies posted a mammoth 434/4 in their 50 overs with the skipper Ricky Ponting 164 runs off 105 balls. In reply, Gibbs scored 175 runs off 111 balls along with Gream Smith’s 90 off 55. At last, Proteas pulled off a historic run chase with one ball to spare and one wicket remaining.
