International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has received a formal letter demanding Iran to be kicked out of the World Cup. Iran is alongside United States, England and Wales in Group B for the FIFA World Cup. Team Melli will play their opening fixture against the Three Lions at the Khalifa International Stadium on November 21.
This move comes after the country’s “brutality towards its own people”. The current political situation in Iran which has been termed “deeply unacceptable” for women and “not a safe space for even men” is also another reason to this result. There have been calls to exclude the side after the death of Mahsa Amini.
In the statement released, it was revealed that a group of Iranian soccer and sports personalities in collaboration with the law firm of Ruiz-Huerta & Crespo has sent the request to FIFA.
