Former Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds tragically passed away in a car crash in Queensland. According to a statement by Queensland police, Symonds was in a single-car crash at about 10:30 pm. The two-time World Cup winner was driving on Hervey Range Road near the Alice River Bridge when his car left the road and rolled, police said.

The Paramedics arrived at the scene but couldn’t revive the former Australian fan favourite, who was the only person in the car. "Early information indicates shortly after 11 pm the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road, near Alice River Bridge when it left the roadway and rolled," a police statement read.

"Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant, however, he died of his injuries."

Cricket Australia chair Lachlan Henderson made a comment about Symonds’ death and said, "Australian cricket has lost another of its very best. Andrew was a generational talent who was instrumental in Australia's success at World Cups and as part of Queensland's rich cricket history.

"He was a cult figure to many who was treasured by his fans and friends. On behalf of Australian cricket our deepest sympathies are with Andrew's family, team-mates, and friends."

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akthar also posted a heartwarming message for Symonds that said, “Devastated to hear about Andrew Symonds passing away in a car crash in Australia. We shared a great relationship on & off the field. Thoughts & prayers with the family.”

Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar also tweeted about Symond’s death and said, “Andrew Symond’s demise is shocking news for all of us to absorb. Not only was he a brilliant all-rounder, but also a live-wire on the field. I have fond memories of the time we spent together in Mumbai Indians.   May his soul rest in peace, condolences to his family & friends.”

Symonds was a fantastic player for Australia as averaged 40.61 with the bat from 26 Tests cricket. But he can be considered as a better white-ball cricketer with antagonising batting ability with sublime fielding anywhere on the field. He played in 198 ODIs where he scored six centuries and 30 half-centuries. He also took 133 wickets with his handy off-spin and medium pace.
