Just a few days before the start of Tokyo Olympics, the Government of India has appointed Anurag Thakur as the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports. The 46-year-old will notably take over the charge from Kiren Rijiju, who has been appointed as the Minister of Law and Justice.

I am honoured to serve the people of India: Anurag Thakur

Anurag Thakur has served as the President of BCCI from May 2016 to February 2017. While he was the Secretary of the board before that, he has also been the Chairman of Selectors of HPCA Ranji Trophy cricket team. His younger brother, Arun Dhumal, currently holds the BCCI Treasurer's post.

After taking the oath on Wednesday, Anurag Thakur also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister. In a tweet, he stated, "I am honoured to serve the people of India as a Union Cabinet minister and take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Sh @narendramodi ji for entrusting me with this responsibility."
