After an unsuccessful stint with Sevilla, Isco is ready to start a new chapter in his career as the 31-year-old playmaker has reportedly agreed to join Real Betis on a free transfer this summer. Isco joined Real Madrid from Malaga in 2013 and was part of the team that won five Champions League titles and three La Liga titles. After being out of favor he joined Sevilla but fell out with the club after the departure of coach Julen Lopetegui.
The former Real Madrid midfielder has been a free agent since leaving Sevilla in December after an altercation with several club officials, including then-Sporting Director Monchi. Isco opened up in a recent interview with MARCA that Monchi physically assaulted him which led to the fallout.
Isco’s salary demands have posed a problem for several of the clubs he has been linked to because it had been difficult to facilitate a move. According to some reports, Real Sociedad were also interested in signing him after David Silva’s injury but Betis ultimately got his signature.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Isco has reached an agreement with Real Betis to join them this summer and will sign a one-year deal. He has completed the main part of the medical tests and will reunite with his former Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini, who is currently in charge of Betis.
Isco will hope to revive his career at Betis and prove that he still has the quality to play at the highest level. The attacking midfielder will also aim to earn a recall to the Spanish national team, which he has not represented since 2018.
