What a game we have had on our hands at the 2026 T20 World Cup between England and the West Indies. England started off on the front foot and cleaned up the Windies’ top order with wickets in quick succession. It seemed as if England had stammed their authority on the game and the West Indies won’t be able to do much to save their pride.

However the script changed and the tables turned with Sherfane Rutherford came on to the pitch. He changed the narrative and brought the game back in West Indies’ favour with a bell built innings.Rutherford started off slow and took his time to assess the conditions and England’s gameplan. Once he was set, there was no looking back from there on.

The southpaw joined hands with Rovman Powell to bring up a 51 run partnership in less than five overs before teaming up with Jason Holder for another 61 run partnership. These two partnerships and Rutherford’s aggressive approach came in very handy for the Windies to script a comeback after a disastrous start at the Wankhede Stadium.

Lets take a look at how twitter reacted to West Indies’ miraculous comeback.

West Indies were 83/4 at the end of 11 overs and went to score 196/6 at the end of 20 overs. They managed to put 113 runs on the scoreboard in just overs with a run rate of 12.5 per over. Rutherford’s heroics will surely go down in the history books purely because of the importance of the innings against a mighty English side.

Rutherford is being hailed a six hitting machine for his moves on the pitch tonight. He has been around the scene for a very long time, but never really lived up to his Caribbean nametag until now. Rutherford now seems to have found his mojo and is expected to play many more explosive innings at the World Cup. Watch out for him.
