French Open 2022: Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty win first Super 750 title

The same Indian duo clinched gold at the Birmingham CWG 2022, sealing their first ever gold in doubles category.

The India men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty clinched their first 2022 French Open title. With this win, the Indian duo bought India’s first Super 750 victory. The young pair defeated Taiwan’s Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han 21-13, 21-19 in the final.

The doubles pair of Rankireddy and Shetty clinched victory by completing dominating the game from the very start. The game which lasted for almost 49 minutes, saw the Indian duo lead the first set 11-5, before wrapping the set 21-13. The second set was also no different as they raced to 11-5 lead. But the Taiwan pair fought hard to level the scores 16-16, but the pair of Chirag and Satwik battled hard to take a lead 19-17 and eventually clinch the game by winning the second set 21-19.

Satwiksairaj and Chirag cruised past Japan’s Y Kobayashi and T Hoki in the quarterfinals 23-21, 21-18 to advance into the semifinals. They later went on to win the semifinal against South Korea’s pair of W.H. Kim and S.G Choi 21-18, 21-14 to enter the first final of the Super 750 tournament. Finally, they etched history by clinching India’s first Super 750 win on Sunday.

This same Indian duo had earlier clinched gold at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. They beat England’s Ben Lean and Sean Vendy 21-15, 21-13 to take home the gold in men’s doubles final in Birmingham, sealing their first ever gold in the doubles category.
