The draws for the 127th edition of the French Open were announced on Thursday, May 25. Being the only tournament to be held on clay court, this edition of the Grand Slam will see a total of 128 players from all over the world play for the prized trophy. The favourites to win the tournament this year are Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek from the Men’s singles and Women’s singles category respectively, however, talking about the experience and the reputation of the tournament, anything can be put to place.
The competition, which features singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events, will take place at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France, from May 28 through June 11, 2023. The biggest notable factor in the draws was that World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and 2021 French Open champion Novak Djokovic are placed in the same half. Meanwhile, the clay court event will miss the 14-time Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal for the first time since 2004.
In the women's draw, top-seeded Iga Swiatek could meet Barbora Krejcikova in the fourth round of the competition. Both women have won the last three editions of the tournament. World no. 1 Iga Swiatek is also expected to face Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals, which would be a repeat of last year's championship match. Additionally, the Polish is drawn in the same half of the draw as Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, who has won all three of their encounters this season.
