Lewis Hamilton had an unlikely finish to the recently concluded Imola Grand Prix on Sunday. The Mercedes driver started the race 14th on the grid after a poor qualifying time almost saw him come 15th at the end of Q1. After an hour-and-a-half, 63 laps and battling with Lance Stroll, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, things didn't get better for the Mercedes driver as he aimed to get into the top 10.

Hamilton struggled with the level of F1 vehicle he needed in the race to compete, and the same was highlighted by the team boss Toto Wolff on team radio at the end of the race. Toto termed the car as "undrivable" and apologised to Hamilton by saying, "you deserve better from us," after the seven-time world champion could only finish 13th in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

In another major development, former world champion and Hamilton's teammate Nico Rosberg has stated that Mercedes driver will find it difficult to keep his motivation up this season and accused Mercedes of not telling the truth to protect their driver after another dismal weekend. Rosberg has reportedly said that Hamilton has won a race in every year of his career, and it looks like this might be the year where he can't win anymore.

"You can see how the tension is rising. We saw Toto, in my view, was angry at Lewis (after qualifying), because maybe Lewis criticised the team a little bit too early over the team internal radio about something they did," Rosberg was quoted.

The former champion has also opined that tension is rising in the Mercedes team, and that's natural. "Lewis is starting to show those emotions a little bit. Nevertheless, with his experience, I think he will eventually manage to keep those under control," he added. Rosberg also suggested that George performing so well could be another source of motivation for Lewis Hamilton to keep going and keep fighting.
