Amidst the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 frenzy, the Goa police have arrested three persons for allegedly betting on the India-Afghanistan game in Delhi. The development was confirmed by the local police on Thursday, October 12. The Men in Blue won the game with a magical batting effort led by captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Addressing the incide nt, the illegal betting activity was conducted in a bungalow in the Porvorim area on the outskirts of Goa’s capital Panaji as per a senior police official. The Porvorim police had arrested the three individuals, originally from Karnataka and in the age group of 32 to 46 years on Wednesday,  the senior police officer further shared.

Talking about the arrest, the police recovered mobile phones, a laptop, a Wi-Fi router and other items worth Rs 1 lakh from the accused persons. The police official, talking about the grounds of the arrest, stated “The accused were arrested under provisions of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act,” as per PTI.

Coming back to the match, Rohit Sharma scored his record-breaking seventh World Cup century against Afghanistan to help India register an eight-wicket win. Sharma smashed 131 in 84 balls with 16 fours and five sixes. Supporting Sharma, Virat Kohli, scored a 56-ball 55 with six fours. The Indian captain won the Player of the Match award for his performance.

Talking about his performance and his World Cup record, Sharma said, “It was a good pitch to bat on, just backed myself to play my natural game. I knew once I got my eye in, the wicket was going to get easier for me. Something that I have been working on from a long time. It's a special feeling to get a World Cup hundred. Really happy with that. Don't want to think too much, I don't want to lose my focus. You need to make such things count. You gotta make it big.”
