On Thursday, May 22, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) registered a comprehensive 33-run win over Gujarat Titans (GT) in the match 64th of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Mitchell Marsh was the star performer for LSG on the night with his maiden IPL hundred, helping his team get an above par total of 235 runs before Will O’Rourke took three wickets, to stall the GT batting lineup at crucial stages in the run chase.

For the unversed, after winning the toss, the captain of GT, Shubman Gill, decided to bowl first, but his decision didn’t pay much dividends with the LSG openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram taking the toll of the bowling. They shared a 91-run opening stand in 9.5 overs before Markram was the first to go back to the pavilion on the bowling of R Sai Kishore, but he scored 36 runs for his team in 24 balls.

Mitchell Marsh dominated the GT bowlers during his elongated stay at the crease, scoring his maiden IPL hundred in just 56 balls before scoring 117 runs in just 64 balls with 10 fours and eight sixes, to set up the LSG innings while being extremely severe on Rashid Khan. He also shared a 121-run stand for the second wicket with Nicholas Pooran, who scored an unbeaten 56 in 27 with four fours and five maximums.

After a brief cameo of 16 runs in six balls from Rishabh Pant, which included a no-look six, LSG reached an above par total of 235/2 in their allotted overs. In pursuit of the target, the all-conquering opening pair of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan for GT got off to a decent start, scoring 46 runs together before Will O’Rourke dismissed the latter for just 21 runs.

Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler were well set in the run chase before being sent back into the pavilion in the 30s by Akash Singh and Avesh Khan, putting the GT middle order under exceeding pressure with 140 more runs to chase down in just 63 balls. It led to a 86-run stand for the fourth wicket between Sherfane Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan, bringing GT well within range of reaching the target before Will O’Rourke took the big wicket of the West Indies international in the 30s.

Rahul Tewatia and Arshad Khan were dismissed cheaply in the death overs by LSG bowlers before Avesh Khan took the big wicket of Shahrukh Khan, who had scored 57 runs in just 29 balls with five fours and three maximums. As the run chase fizzled out completely for GT, it was the part-timer Ayush Badoni, who cleaned up Kagiso Rabada and R Sai Kishore, to end the night for LSG on a great note with a win under their belt.
