Harmilan Bains secured the first medal on the opening day of the athletics championships for India, clocking an impressive time of 4:29.55 in the women's 1500m final. The 25-year-old has continued her rich vein of form in the past few months, which saw her win the silver medal at the Asian Games last year in Hangzhou, China.
Jyothi Yarraji breaks national record in 60m hurdles event
Jyothi Yarraji broke her national record in the 60m hurdles event to win the gold medal for India at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024 in Tehran, Iran. The 24-year-old clocked 8.12 seconds in the 60m hurdles final, surpassing her previous national record of 8.13 seconds, set at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships last year in Astana, Kazakhstan.
During the heats in the morning session, Jyothi Yarraji finished in first place with a timing of 8.22 seconds to give herself the best chance to go for gold. Notably, she had won the silver medal in the 60m hurdles event at the athletics championships last year.
