England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Tuesday, January 21 announced star batter Harry Brook as England’s white-ball vice-captain. The announcement from the ECB came late post Monday midnight, but ahead of the white-ball series against India. It is to be noted that England is set to lock horns with India in a limited-overs series, which includes five T20Is and three ODIs, starting from January 22.
Just hours ahead of the series opener, ECB took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to confirm Harry Brook as Jos Buttler’s deputy. Furthermore, the 25-year-old Yorkshire player has served as England’s ODI captain on a temporary basis in the past, in absence of Jos Buttler during the five-match home series against Australia.
Harry Brook named England’s white-ball vice-captain
The 25-year-old middle-order batter has played 20 ODIs and 39 T20Is for The Three Lions since his debut against West Indies in Bridgetown on January 6, 2022. Moreover, his appointment came over the likes of Laim Livingstone and Phil Salt. He will take over the role from the upcoming white-ball series against India, followed by serving in the role in the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.
While Brook will be Buttler’s deputy, England’s new white-ball coach Brendon McCullum confirmed that the Jos Buttler will play as a pure batter whereas Phil Salt will keep the wickets. The announcement came during the pre-match press conference in Kolkata ahead of series opener.
