Harry Kane’s time in North London is finally coming to an end as the Englishman will complete a move to Bavarian giants Bayern Munich this week. The star striker is one of Tottenham’s greatest ever players, as well as one of the most gifted strikers in the Premier League and will join the Bundesliga club for a fee reported to be more than EUR 100 million. Kane is set to be Bayern’s long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who departed the German club for Barcelona last summer.
Harry Kane has scored 213 goals in 317 games for Tottenham and was closing in on Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record. Despite this, the England captain has not won any trophy with Spurs, despite multiple close runs in the Premier League (especially under manager Mauricio Pochettino) and a Champions League final appearance in 2019. The Athletic also reported that Kane will wear the number 9 shirt at Bayern and sign a deal that will see him in Bavaria until he is 34. Tottenham held firm during negotiations with Bayern and managed to recoup a fee of more than EUR 100 million.
Bayern Munich seek to replace Lewandowski
Replacing a generational striker like Robert Lewandowski is never easy, as Bayern Munich have understood. The club will hope that Harry Kane will provide a long-term solution to their striker vacancy and will be able to replicate the numbers Lewandowski put up.
Their signing of Sadio Mane from Liverpool was one of the biggest flops of last season, with issues both on and off the pitch leading to one of the worst Bayern campaigns in recent memory. The club was only able to retain their Bundesliga title thanks to a collapse by Borussia Dortmund in the last game of the season. It is hoped that Harry Kane, who is not only an elite finisher but also one of the best technical and creative strikers in the world, will be the final piece of the puzzle in the club challenging for the Champions League again.
