Heung-min Son is a South Korean international footballer who plays as a forward for the North London club Tottenham Hotspurs. The 33-year-old joined Tottenham in the year 2015 from the German club Bayer Leverkusen. In the 454 appearances that he has made for Tottenham, he has scored 173 goals and provided 101 assists. The South Korean was made the club captain in 2023 due to his leadership and performances. Son came on as a substitute in the Europa League final against Manchester United and saw his team lift their first silverware after 17 years of wait.
Tottenham are currently preparing for the pre-season friendly against Newcastle United in Seoul after successfully defeating their rivals Arsenal in the previous match. During the press-conference ahead of the match, Son confirmed his decision to leave Spurs ahead of the upcoming season and th club have stood by his decision. Son described this decision as one of the toughest that he has made in his career.
Son set to join MLS club Los Angeles FC: Reports
The 33-year-old is reportedly in advanced negotiations with the MLS team Los Angeles FC and is likely to finalise the USA as the next destination in his club career. Some Saudi clubs were also interested in signing the South Korean. However, Son prefers a move to the MLS club. Son is reportedly set to play his last match with Tottenham against Newcastle at his home country. Tottenham boss Thomas Frank stated that it could be a beautiful ending for Son at Tottenham.
Reflecting on his journey with Tottenham Hotspurs, Son got all emotional and stated, "I came to north London as a kid at a very young age, a young boy came to London who even didn't speak English. Leaving this club as a grown man is a very, very proud moment.” He further added that he needed a new environment to push himself as 10 years is a long time to spend at a club.
