In the Indonesia Open 2023 men's doubles summit match on Sunday, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated reigning champions and second seeded Malaysian pair of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik to become the first Indian duo to win a BWF Super 1000 title.
Additionally, it was their eighth meeting and first victory over the Malaysian pair. The duo won the championship game in straight sets of 17-21 and 18-21 in just 43 minutes. The doubles pair now boasts of an impressive list of victories which includes a gold medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, a Thomas Cup gold medal, a bronze medal from the World Championships, and triumphs at the Super 300 (Syed Modi), Super 500 (Thailand and India Open), and Super 750 (French Open), Indonesia Open (Super 1000) competitions.
This historic win has left the country in awe of this pair of ace shuttlers. Several famous personalities congratulated the duo for their record-breaking feat.
