In a recent development, Spain’s Alvaro Morata has revealed that he received abuse on social media during Euro 2020 and added that his wife and children have been threatened and shouted at on the streets of Seville.
Notably, the striker was at the center of attention even before the tournament began after he was booed by the Spain fans in a friendly encounter with Portugal. However, he has had a hapless time on the pitch in the ongoing EURO 2020 tournament, having missed numerous chances in the 0-0 draw with Sweden, the 1-1 draw with Poland and he also had a penalty saved in Spain’s 5-0 win against Slovakia.

"I would like people to put themselves in my shoes and think what it’s like to get threats towards my family, people saying: ‘I hope your children die,'" Morata told the Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.
"I’ve had to leave my phone outside my room. My wife and children have come to the stadium in Seville with Morata on the back of their shirts and people have been shouting at them. It’s complicated. I understand people booing me for missing chances but there’s a limit," he added.
Morata further admitted that he had sleepless nights after missing out on the penalty but does not regret taking the spot-kick. He further said that he continues to receive support from his teammates. The striker also revealed that former Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas had called him to lift his spirits.
The 28-year-old Juventus player, who is on loan from Atletico Madrid, will next be seen in action when Spain take on Croatia in the Round of 16 on Monday.
Morata added, “I'm fine, maybe a few years ago I would have been screwed. I've spent a couple of weeks isolated from everything. I'm super happy and super motivated with reaching the Round of 16.
