The last year for Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been full of uncertainties and disappointments, given his form and selection concerns in the Indian team. Kuldeep Yadav, who was once an obvious pick in the MS Dhoni-led India, has been witnessing a downfall in his form since last year. It all started around IPL 2020, when the left-arm spinner played only a handful of 5 matches for Kolkata Knight Riders, picking only 1 wicket. Following this, in spite of being picked for the Australia series, the spinner did not feature in a single match. However, Kuldeep did feature in the 2nd Test against England earlier this year and picked 2 wickets. The rough phase for the spinner continued even in the 14th edition of the IPL as Kuldeep didn’t play a single game for KKR.

And now, the Chinaman was left out from the 20-man squad for the WTC final and England Test series.

I am disappointed not to be a part, I wanted to go and perform: Kuldeep

The left-arm spinner expressed his disappointment on being missed out from the Virat Kohli-led squad for the WTC final against New Zealand and England Test series. "I am disappointed not to be part of the Indian team because I wanted to go and perform and contribute to the team's win,” Yadav mentioned. He added that such things happen and one feels dejected, however, it prepares one to perform in the next opportunity.

Hopeful of getting picked for Sri Lanka tour: Kuldeep

With the Kohli-led India being in the UK for the England series, BCCI will be sending a white-ball specialist team to Sri Lanka for the limited-overs series scheduled in July. Speaking of which, Kuldeep Yadav expressed his desire to be picked for the white-ball tour.

"I haven't gone there (to England), so hopefully I will go to Sri Lanka and get the chance to perform there,” Yadav mentioned.

Given his selection in the Sri Lanka tour, this could be an opportunity for the left-arm spinner to redeem himself and take his place in the Indian team considering the cut-throat competition in Indian cricket in the present times.
