The ICC Men's T20 World Cup is fast approaching its knockout stage. While all Super 12 fixtures from Group 1 have been played with New Zealand and England guaranteeing themself a place in the final four, final three matches from Group 2 will be played on Sunday after which the semi-final lineup will be confirmed.
South Africa vs Netherlands, Pakistan vs South Africa and India vs Zimbabwe will all be played on Sunday and bring the Super 12 stage to a conclusion.
Here in this article, we will have a look at whether India will be able to face New Zealand in T20 World Cup 2022 semis.
Remaining Schedule of ICC men's T20 World Cup 2022:
SA vs NED in Adelaide, 5th Nov (5:30 AM)
PAK vs BAN in Adelaide, 5th Nov (9:30 AM)
IND vs ZIM in Melbourne, 5th Nov (1:30 PM)
Current points table of Group-2 in T20 WC 2022 (In brackets mentioned NRR):
IND: 6 (+0.73)
SA: 5 (+1.44)
PAK: 4 (+1.11)
BAN: 4 (-1.276)
ZIM: 3 (-0.313)
NED: 2 (-1.233)
Now, for India to face New Zealand in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 then they must end as the 2nd placed team in the points table of Group 2. India's win in the final fixture will ensure they end up as table toppers of Group 2 in T20 WC 2022.
India can end up being the 2nd placed team in the points table either if they lose to ZIM (or) if their final game of the super-12 stage end as No Result.
If India lose their final game then they can end up qualifying as 2nd placed team of Group 2 in T20 WC 2022 as shown below:
Case-1:
- South Africa beat the Netherlands
- Bangladesh beat Pakistan (or) Pakistan vs Bangladesh end up as No Result.
SA with 7 points and IND with 6 points qualify for the semi-finals.
(OR)
Case-2:
- South Africa lose to Netherlands (or) South Africa vs Netherlands end up as No Result.
- Pakistan beat Bangladesh
PAK and IND with 6 points qualify for the semi-finals. SA with a maximum of 6 points will fail to reach the semi-final as they have fewer wins compared to PAK & IND.
If IND vs ZIM ends up as a No Result then SA must defeat NED for India to qualify as the 2nd placed team and play semi-finals against New Zealand.
