India will now face New Zealand for a three-match Test series at home, followed by five Tests in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 down under. Let’s have a look at India’s chances for the WTC Final 2025.
How can India qualify for the WTC Final 2025?
India are currently standing at the top of the points table in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle 2023-25. The Rohit Sharma-led side has registered eight wins from 11 matches, with 98 points and 74.24 percentage points. Looking at the points table, the two-time runners-up India are clearly favorites to enter their third consecutive WTC final. However, they still have to play eight Test matches before the final.
Along with India, Australia and Sri Lanka are other top teams who also have realistic chances to make it into the WTC final. With the three Test matches coming against New Zealand, if India win all these three matches, they will almost make it into the World Test Championship final 2025. After that, a couple of victories out of five Test matches in Australia will confirm India’s entry to their third consecutive WTC final.
