The ninth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is going on in its full glory in the USA and West Indies, where a total of 20 teams are clashing for the ultimate glory. In the tournament, former champions, Sri Lanka, placed in Group D, have had a disappointing start, after they suffered a six-wicket defeat to South Africa in season opener, followed by a two-wicket defeat against Bangladesh. The Wanindu Hasaranga-led side will next take on Nepal on June 12.

The 2014 champions are on the verge of a group-stage exit, though they aren’t eliminated yet. However, the island nation can still make it to the Super 8 stage of the ongoing tournament, but now the possibilities don’t lie only in their hands. To sail past the group stage, Sri Lanka need to win their next two games against Nepal and the Netherlands.

This is not it. Sri Lanka would have to make sure that they defeat their rivals by huge margins to boost their run rate. In addition, South Africa, Netherlands and Bangladesh would also be required to lose at least two of their remaining three games. It would allow the Lankans to finish second in their group with four points.
