Sri Lanka lost to Bangladesh by five wickets and were eliminated from the ODI World Cup 2023 semi-final race as they lost six out of eight games in this tournament. But still, they have a chance to qualify for Champions Trophy 2025 if they end at the top eight position in the points table and here in this article, we will see if they have any chance to play in the Champions Trophy event, hosted by Pakistan in 2025.
From the ODI World Cup 2023, teams like Pakistan, India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Afghanistan have already qualified for the Champions Trophy 2025.
Now from the remaining four teams Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Netherlands and England two of them can qualify for the Champions Trophy based on where they finish in the points table.
Bangladesh - 2 wins (8 games)
Sri Lanka - 2 wins (8 games)
Netherlands - 2 wins (7 games)
England - 1 win (7 games)
Now, Sri Lanka can end with a maximum of 3 wins in the World Cup 2023 points table if they go on to win their last game against New Zealand.
If Bangladesh loses their last game against Australia, then they will end up with only 2 wins in the points table.
If the Netherlands lose their last two games against England and India then they will also end up with only 2 wins in the points table.
If England defeats the Netherlands and loses to Pakistan, then they will also end with only 2 wins in the points table.
So, Sri Lanka with 3 wins will stand above Bangladesh, Netherlands and England who have 2 wins each in the table, hence, they can qualify for the Champions Trophy easily if all the above points work.
