Indian team after disastrous performance in the first two ODI WC editions, made a stellar comeback in 1983 WC edition under Kapil Dev's leadership by winning the title by defeating an invincible side like West Indies in finals at the home of cricket - Lord's.

India ended at second position in the points table. Additionally, India remains to be the only team to beat two-time world champion West Indies in this 1983 WC edition. They beat England in semi-finals and defeated the defending champion West Indies in final to clinch the World Cup trophy.
