The 25-year-old Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra once again stole the limelight as he clinched a win at the Lausanne Diamond League, which was his second straight win at the event after earlier winning in 2022. The ‘Golden Boy’ of India superseded some of the best javelin throwers across the world with a throw of 87.66m, which came in his fifth attempt.

However, the India athlete accepted that this was far from his best attempt of 89.94m, he cemented his position at the top of the Diamond League standing with 16 points. Chopra is three points clear of Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, who stands at second place with 13 points, followed by Germany’s Julian Weber with 12 points.

The Indian athlete after his win on return opened up on his injury struggles. Chopra said that he was feeling nervous on his return and added that he could have put up a better performance. “I was feeling a bit nervous coming back from injury. It was a bit cold here tonight. I am still far from my best, but I feel it is getting better,” Neeraj asserted.

The 25-year-old had earlier pulled out of FBK Games, which took place on June 4 at Hengelo, Netherlands. He also missed the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland on June 13 and Ostrava Golden Spike meet in Czech Republic on June 27. The Indian star athlete had sustained a muscle strain and missed out a month in the series of Diamond League events before making his return at the Lausanne Diamond League on Friday, June 30.
