Sri Lanka all-rounder Chamika
Karunaratne, unfortunately, lost his four teeth while taking a catch in the Lanka
Premier League 2022. The incident occurred during Match 4 of LPL 2022 between Galle
Gladiators and Jaffna Kings at Hambantota.
Karunaratne, while fielding
at covers for the Kings got hold of Nuwanidu Fernando’s catch off Carlos Brathwaite’s
ball in the fourth over of the Gladiators’ innings.
However, he sustained a
nasty blow to his face during a catching attempt. As a result, he bled and lost
four teeth, as reported by Sri Lanka's
national daily Daily Mirror.
Karunaratne took to Instagram
to confirm the development, wherein he is seen posing for a photo with clear
bruises on his lips. He captained the story, “Lost 4 teeth, got them back, got
30 stitches and I can still smile a little. I will be back stronger than ever
with a smile in Pallekele! See you soon!”
After receiving a
blow, the 26-year-old went to the hospital for immediate surgery. Hence, Chamika
didn’t come onto the field to take a further part in the game. Brathwaite took
four wickets to restrict Gladiators to 121.
Afterwards, Sadeera
Samarawickrama (62*) and Avishka Fernando (51) helped the Kings to seal the
game easily. According to Karunaratne’s story, he is likely to return to action
on Saturday (December 10) for the Kings against Kandy Falcons.
Last month, Karunratne
was handed a one-year ban from international cricket by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC),
after he was found to breach several clauses of the Players’ agreement at the
Twenty20 World Cup in Australia. As a result, he recently featured in the Abu
Dhabi T10 League as well.
