Infamous Former Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales has pressed that he 'can't understand' why his kissing incident with Spanish footballer J enni Hermoso was labelled as sexual assault. Rubiales was charged with harassment after he kissed Hermoso after Spain's Women's World Cup women's final win against England last August.
Since then Rubiales has faced heavy scrutiny from the Spanish Federation and FIFA for his actions. Further, the 46-year-old was recently charged and arrested on Wednesday as part of a corruption investigation regarding the Spanish Super Cup competition in Saudi Arabia.
I cannot understand: Rubiales on his sexual assault charges
But in a recent interview with Spanish broadcaster La Sexta, Rubiales has slammed the judge who charged him with sexual assault over his 'unwanted' Hermoso kiss. Speaking to journalist Ana Pastor, Rubiales said, "I think his way of describing my words is manipulative. I cannot understand that anyone could think this was a sexual assault" before rejecting any coercion by saying, "I only spoke 10 or 15 seconds with Miss Hermoso."
Luis Rubiales corruption case
Talking about his corruption case, Rubiales was released soon after being imprisoned on arrival in Madrid from the Dominican Republic. He is suspected of receiving illicit commissions when negotiating a lucrative deal to host the Spanish Super Cup competition in Saudi Arabia. The prosecutors of the case are pursuing a two-and-a-half-year jail term while Rubiales has denied any wrongdoing.
